If you already have an account and need to join a new space, ask the creator of the space (or someone who is an ‘editor’ of that space) to invite you.

They can invite you as an ‘Editor’, or as a ‘Moderator’. An Editor can edit the whole space. A Moderator can only see the Moderation section of the dashboard.
